Malaysia Boleh! - Marc

Malaysia didn’t strike out any different from India to me, except for the large number of Malaysians and Chinese people, its saltless-white-riced cuisine and the peculiarly anglicized Bahasa Melayu! There are a lot of South Indians too, but in India too, they’re everywhere. So it seemed to be a universal phenomenon: South Indians are everywhere! The ubiquity of Indians(NOT just South Indians) and Chinese is explained by the simplest fact that we’re just too many of us!

Anyway. Back to business. The dissected English that one comes across has its own Malaysian accent with a ‘lah’ sprinkled in each conversation. The favorite phrases of the Malaysians seem to be “Maybe lah!”, “Can, can” and “Cannot lah!” with a wide grin! And there is an optimistic topping of “Malaysia Boleh!” (Malaysia can) To lah or not to lah, is the only question in Malaysia!

The ants in Malaysia are sure a lot more fierce compared to those found anywhere else. They’ve a better fighting spirit compared to Indian girls! And they do not even scream…

I’ve been confronting an ant attack ever since I’ve arrived here. I was told that Malaysian women are a lot more possessive than others, but nobody ever mentioned about this tendency prevailing in ants too!

Perhaps the ants are the primitive residents of the Cooking Oil Tree Jungle near which I live. But they’re more familiar with my refrigerator than I am! The ants are clearly frequenting it more than I do! See how fast one can adapt to technology?

At times I wonder at the information exchange, the communication and the logistics activities that the ants undertake. They would dare to drag objects/semi-living creatures twice or thrice their size- alone! And they never seem to be lost in the world so vast! With due respect to their near negligible size, but look at them, they never seem to care about the bigger creatures around! All this brings me to conclude that the Malaysian ants are tiny monsters with gigantic egos and a desire to conquer whatever comes in their way.

And that’s the end of my “Silliest thought of the day.” Ah… look who’s reading! You too are done with your silliest deed of the day… get back to work!

Adios!
